Those of you who have read my articles or heard me speak on the floor or the House of Delegates at AMA or at the Louisiana State Medical Society or viewed me on TV regarding the ideal healthcare system know my opinion is price controls never work and always lead to rationing of care and more. Let the free flow of price information flow and let competition reign. Let patients decide on doctor and hospital. My view has not changed since I first testified to Congress on this very issue in 1976 and many times as AMA president. Liberty is easy to lose and hard to regain. Many brave individuals sacrificed much for our liberty. Don’t throw in the towel and retreat from the area. Reread Teddy Roosevelt’s Man in the Arena speech.
2– The images taken with my iPhone 10 XS MAX with 3 lenses are outstanding. It is nice to have that camera’s capability when I don’t have one of my 35mm film or Nikon digital, or 4/3 sensor Olympus or medium format Pentax 645 film cameras with me. The quality of images with the advanced phone cameras satisfy the majority of snapshot photographers. I watched the online Apple event today announcing the new products including the new camera today. Check out the video replay of the event at Apple Website. Note the still and 4K at 60 frames per second video camera capability as well as post-production options with video obtained with the iPhone 11 Pro camera (The XS model is the larger version of the iPhone 11 PRO). 3- Photography tip: No matter how fancy or not so fancy the camera, outstanding photographers pay attention to the criteria I was told to use when selected as the sole judge in a New Orleans Camera Club photo competition many years ago. Those 3 are: Composition, Technical, and Impact.
1- Composition – For family photo at restaurant, did you (or waiter) stand too far back and there is lot of empty space above heads and space before the feet? Etc.
2- Technical – Is everything in focus that is suppose to be in focus? Did the backlighting make the subject’s face too dark and you failed to compensate for it?. Remember to hold the camera still and not move it during the snapping of the image, etc.
3- Impact – Do you say “WOW” when viewing the image? Examples of that include the Pulitzer Price photography images. Study them and reflect on what impressed the judges more than other images.

Here are a few images from my cameras over the years plus some images from my iPhone. The continual improvement of image quality in phone cameras is one of the reasons many camera stores are either disappearing or just changing to image printing and framing. Hard to compete with big box stores via Internet and phone images.
