DJP Update 11-15-2011 Success for issue of private-contracting in Medicare at AMA Interim Meeting!

Great work by Coalition of State Medical and National Specialty Societies with a lot of help from friends, including large medical societies, Take Back the Profession group, etc.!  Keep up the momentum.

Many outstanding speakers went to microphone to advocate for this success at AMA.  But now we need ACTION!

See my DJP Update 9-23-2011 regarding importance of private contracting, balance-billing and H.R. 1700 concerning Medicare patients.

Here is some great news.  AMA Interim meeting just ended and the tweets below tell of important action items concerning private contracting.

1- Dr. Robert Wah, Chair of Board of Trustees, went to microphone today and stated private contracting revision for Medicare will be placed in AMA 2012 Strategic Plan.
2- Substitute resolution 203 passed overwhelming by voice vote; only one negative view at microphone during debate.  The substitute resolution states:

Resolved, That our AMA now initiate and sustain our well-funded grassroots campaign to secure the support of the American People for passage of the Medicare Patient Empowerment Act in Congress as directed by the I-2010 meeting through policy D-390.960.

Note that the Medicare Patient Empowerment Act is H.R. 1700 by Congressman Tom Price, MD, of Georgia. See the link above in second sentence for more info about Act.

Get this passed in Congress and AMA membership will soar.  AMA is a membership organization with all states, specialties, etc. represented in House of Delegates.
Time to take control of our profession again.  As Dr. Bill Plested said when he was president of AMA, “Take back the Profession!”

Thanks for visiting New Orleans and participating in important debates!  I had great fun giving speeches to OSMAP and OMSS Friday and Saturday.  Great audiences.
Anyone who attended and who desires my handouts in electronic format, send me an email.  But your server has to accept large files.

I fly to Ohio tomorrow for a media tour.
Onward.

Stay well.
