PALMISANO TO ASSUME ROLE AS MAG EXECUTIVE DIRECTOR ON JANUARY 10
ATLANTA – Donald J. Palmisano Jr. will succeed David A. Cook as the Medical Association of Georgia’s (MAG) executive director on January 10, MAG President Dan DeLoach, M.D., announced today.
Last week, Georgia Gov.-elect Nathan Deal announced that Cook will become the Commissioner of the state Department of Community Health. Having joined MAG in 2006, Palmisano has been MAG’s General Counsel and Director of Government Relations.
“There is a clear consensus among our physician leaders that Donald J. Palmisano Jr. has the kind of exemplary background and skill set and strategic vision that we need to lead this organization in 2011 and beyond,” Dr. DeLoach said. “And that’s critical when you consider that the medical profession has never faced such considerable challenges.”
Palmisano stated that, “We are going to maintain our role as the leading voice for the medical profession in Georgia, and we’re always going to do what’s best for patients in the state.” He added that MAG will focus on the issues that physicians have said matter the most to them, including tort reform and health insurance reform and Medicare/Medicaid.
Palmisano also stressed that MAG will be upgrading its continuing medical education programs for physicians, as well as helping its members cope with the effects of the new national health care bill.
Palmisano represented individual physicians as a private practicing attorney from 1999 to 2005. He graduated from the Loyola School of Law in New Orleans, where he was a member of the National Moot Court Team.
Of Cook, Dr. DeLoach said, “Physicians in this state owe him a huge debt of gratitude for his tireless efforts and his countless contributions to the medical profession.”
MAG has more than 6,000 members. Go to www.mag.org for additional information.
