DJP Update 10-20-2017 1) Hurricanes and Fires 2) 100-mile run by MAG CEO DJP Jr for driving safety campaign

1- Thinking of all who were in the path of recent damaging hurricanes and the horrific fires in Napa and surrounding areas.  The psychological effects extend beyond the replacement of damaged property even when loved ones are not harmed.  For those who lost family and friends, our sincerest condolences.  In our area, Hurricane Katrina memories are vivid despite the passage of 12 years.

2-  Son Donald J. Palmisano, Jr., J.D., CEO of Medical Association of Georgia, does another 100-mile run Oct 28-29, this time for a driving safety campaign.  Robin and I will be in Arizona for the race with his wife Ana and our grandsons to lend support and take photos!

Distracted driving is an increasing hazard especially with texting and phone handling while driving!

Go to MAG Website site and consider a donation to help the campaign reach its goal.

“The Medical Association of Georgia (MAG) is encouraging member physicians and other individuals and corporate sponsors to support MAG Executive Director Donald J. Palmisano Jr. with a tax-deductible donation when he participates in the 100-mile ‘Javelina Jundred’ trail run in Arizona on October 28-29 to raise funds for a campaign that the MAG Foundation is developing to reduce distracted driving in the state.”

According to the AAA Foundation for Traffic Safety, distracted driving is responsible for about 16 percent of all fatal motor vehicle crashes in the U.S. – which is about 5,000 deaths per year.

The AAA Foundation also notes that, “Nearly half of all people who say they feel less safe than they did five years ago say distracted driving by other drivers fuels their concerns.”

Palmisano hopes to raise at least $25,000 for the campaign, which is aligned with a patient safety policy that MAG’s House of Delegates passed in 2016.

Donors will be recognized on MAG’s website, MAG’s Facebook and Twitter accounts, and in the fourth quarter edition of the Journal of the Medical Association of Georgia

While the list is expected to grow, early campaign sponsors include the MAG Alliance and the Medical Association of Atlanta.
